DEL RIO HISTORY

The June 21, 1947, issue of Box office

Magazine said the new Del Rio Theater had

opened recently. The owner was William

Peters, who also owned the El Rey Theater

in Manteca, the Rio Theater in Ripon, and

the Lyric Theater in Escalon.

The Del Rio had 750 seats, 135 of them loges.

The architect was O.E. Deichmann of San

Francisco, who also designed the Park

Theatre in Menlo Park.

Most recently used as a restaurant next door

to the auditorium, the big room was last

used as a community theater, by both the

Riverbank Community Theater and Rio Arts

organizations. It hosted stage productions,

art shows, gospel shows, dinner theater and

rehearsal hall.
